Three recent state government funding programs have targeted regional tourism in three north West towns. Kalbarri Western Australians have made the most of their Kalbarri holidays in the past week through the Experience Kalbarri at Half Price promotion, with all bookings sold out in seven days. Supported by the State Government through Tourism WA, the promotion encouraged visitors to book tours, experiences and boat hire across the region by offering discounts, up to a total value of $50,000. The 2021 Shinju Matsuri Festival is now underway (22 August – 5 September), with Broome abuzz as thousands of revellers fill its streets, venues and shores for the iconic annual event. The popular festival is now in its 51st year, making it one of the longest-running events in Western Australia. The 2021 festival was extended from nine days to 15 days, giving festivalgoers more time to enjoy the region's history, multicultural community and natural landscapes. Read the full media statement Shark Bay The Wirruwana Hub on Shark Bay's Dirk Hartog Island was opened recently, providing a new visitor experience in the Gascoyne. The Hub, consisting of a new visitor centre, beachside bar and café, provides visitors with a richer tourism experience on the island. The project has facilitated an increase in the number of tours to Dirk Hartog Island, and extended visitor length of stay and spend in the Shark Bay economy.
