Training Councils are Skills Advisory Bodies that represent current and future skills needs of industry and the community to the State Government. They are not for profit organisations funded by the Department of Training and Workforce Development and are recognised by the State Training Board under section 22(1) (b) of the Vocational Education and Training Act 1996. The current industry training advisory arrangements comprise 8 Training Councils in WA, who provide:
a leadership role in promoting training industry, including partnerships between industry and the training sector;
high level, strategic information and advice that informs the State Training Board on the training needs and priorities of industry in Western Australia; and
market intelligence on skills supply and demand, in particular, current or emerging skills shortages;
recommendations for skills strategies to support workforce development needs.
Training Councils contribute to the preparation of the State Training Profile and the State’s Vocational and Education Training system funding priorities and receive a wide-range of input from key stakeholder representatives, including peak employer, employee, and industry organisations.
