Racing and equine qualifications- draft validation

​SkillsIQ, alongside the Racing and Breeding Industry Reference Committee (IRC), is currently updating the Certificate II in Racing Industry so that it applies to skills required across all codes, and the Certificate IV in Racing (Jockey) to reflect the expertise required to race thoroughbred horses.
 
If you work in the racing and equine sector, we would appreciate your views, thoughts and suggestions on the drafts.
 
The drafts of the racing and equine qualifications, units of competency and their associated assessment requirements will be open for public validation until 8 April 2021. Visit Skill Impact's Greyhound Racing Careers & Jockeys Project webpage to provide validation or email cathy@skillsimpact.com.au
 
Horse Care Project
 
The Horse Care Project is aiming to capture the skills and knowledge required for horse care in nationally endorsed qualifications, skill sets and units, which are expected to be made available for validation in May 2021. FutureNow will provide an update when these qualifications, skill sets and units are available for comment.

Royal Lifesaving Western Australia continues to encourage enrolment in the Swim Teacher program as an
innovative and flexible training solution that offers candidates and industry-recognised Swim Teacher qualification from the SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package, and is a WA Department of Health approved qualification for swimming and water safety instruction.
 
The course combines online learning, face-to-face instruction and on-the-job practical hours, and successful participants will gain the qualifications needed to work as a Swimming and Water Safety Instructor in Australia.

​The Print and Visual Communication Association (PVCA) is the leadership and support organisation for all businesses in the print, packaging, graphic design, and media technology industry in Australia. We work to support and promote an evolving industry, and to help our members become more profitable and sustainable.
The Printing Industry Creativity Awards set the benchmark for excellence in print in Australia, with the achievement of a Gold Medal a confirmation of achievement to the highest national – and, international – standards, and the ultimate accolade the industry can bestow.
With the help of member feedback from previous years a major revision of the printing awards categories has taken place. Combined with PVCA board oversight and international judging panel insight the competition for gold will be strong.

The Honourable Sue Ellery MLC remains as Minister for Education and Training in WA Premier Mark McGowan's new-look cabinet, announced on 18th March, 2021.
The Hon David Templeman MLA retains Arts and Culture, and adds Tourism to his portfolio. The Hon Dr Tony Buti MLA takes on the Sport portfolio, and the Hon Don Punch MLA inherits Innovation and ICT.

VET Delivered to Secondary Students: 2022 School Year Register Published

VET Delivered to Secondary Students refers to Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses undertaken as part of school studies. Over two thirds of Australia’s senior secondary students are enrolled in a VET Delivered to Secondary Students course.
The VET Qualifications Register is updated annually to reflect industry advice around the suitability of available vocational qualifications for delivery to secondary students. The Register informing the 2022 school year has just been released, and incorporates advice gathered through FutureNow from the Creative, Leisure and Technology industries.

Federal government extends apprenticeship subsidy scheme

The Federal government has announced that the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy scheme will be extended to the end of September, 2021.
Through the subsidy, any business or Group Training Organisation that engages an Australian Apprentice between 5 October 2020 and 30 September 2021 may be eligible for a subsidy of 50 per cent of wages paid to a new or recommencing apprentice or trainee for a 12-month period from the date of commencement, to a maximum of $7,000 per quarter.​
