Read the Screenwest spotlight The latest report from arts and culture sector think tank A New Approach expands on their Big Picture series to explore arts and culture expenditure by governments in Australia between the years of 2007–08 and 2020–21. The research draws on a new release of Australia’s most comprehensive dataset on this topic, the cultural funding by governments series (CFG). Australia is still spending less as a share of GDP on recreation, culture and religion compared to most of its OECD peers, ranking 23rd of 31 OECD countries in 2020 in this internationally comparable area of government spending. The report notes that this evidence raises further questions rather than clear answers, including about the global role of governments in stimulating and underpinning arts and culture alongside other sources of direct and indirect investment.

This outlines six key findings for business and industry with aligned policy recommendations. Key findings included: * 1 in 2 workers aged between 18 to 54 feel exhausted at work, experience difficulty concentrating because of outside responsibilities, see their career opportunities as limited and 1 in 3 are considering quitting their job * the ageing Australian population means caregiving demands will intensify. Those currently in caregiving roles are experiencing more exhaustion at work than before the pandemic and believe they are experiencing disadvantages in career opportunities. * workers with chronic illnesses believe work is contributing to worsening their health * discrimination remains a challenge in workplaces * flexibility at work is critical for worker retention * most workers feel their skills will remain competitive even during technological changes such as artificial intelligence and automation. This report explores how a small selection of Australian performing arts organisations are currently responding to the global ecological crisis. The study was conducted at Griffith University in 2022-2023 with the intention of highlighting leaders in the field. Sustainability, decarbonisation and the ways in which this intersects with workforce development is set to be a focus area for WA's State Training Plan in 2023-24.

To coincide with the 2023 International Women's Day, the Centre for Future Work and the Australia Institute released a report by Eliza Littleton and Greg Jericho on the current state of the gender pay gap in Australia. This report highlights that Australian women each week are paid over $3 billion less wages than men despite making up 48% of the workforce. In addition, while the gender pay gap has been shrinking since 1984, in recent years this progress has stalled. This report outlines the history and current state of the gender pay gap followed by future recommendations.
This report makes efforts towards valuing social production as we work to measure, monitor, and forecast the Mental Wealth of our nation. Australia’s Social Production was estimated to be at least $287.86 billion, equating to 14% of Australia’s GDP in 2021. Women are the largest generators of value in terms of Social Production, consistent across all currently measured activity categories. Australians aged 65 and over contributed $7.56bn in social production through voluntary work, the largest of any age group.

Read the Government of Australia discussion paper The Australian HR Institute (AHRI) undertook research in November and December 2022 to provide a perspective on the current state of diversity, equity, and inclusion in Australian workplaces. The research included a survey of 307 HR professionals and gathered a number of case studies drawn from respondents.
