Sport, Fitness and Recreation

FutureNow’s industry coverage for the sport, fitness and recreation sector incorporates a broad set of activities in sport, fitness, outdoor recreation, community recreation and aquatics. It is a complex landscape interconnected with tourism, events, education and health. Heavily reliant on volunteers, the industry plays a vital role in promoting healthy living, participation, social inclusion and wellbeing. ​
Industry Snapshots ​
FutureNow have produced a number of reflective industry snapshots in relation to workforce development, training and skill development, including insights into future skill development priorities across their portfolios.

These include: sport, fitness, outdoor recreation, aquatics and racing and equine.


The industry snapshots are developed through consultation with industry experts and desktop research and play an important role in assisting Government and relevant stakeholders with current and emerging workforce and skills development advice.

Current Projects

State Priority Occupation List (SPOL) and Western Australian Job, Education and Training survey (WAJET) 
FutureNow continues to research and gather industry intelligence on Sport, Fitness, Recreation and Aquatics. Information was recently  gathered, including a survey open to industry stakeholders which closed mid-March, for the WAJET survey. FutureNow are continually seeking input from industry and welcome any thoughts and ideas you may have. Please contact the Industry Development Manager - Sport, Fitness and Recreation.     

SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package Updates
FutureNow are working closely with SkillsIQ, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Culture, and industry experts to review the case for change in these training packages. To keep up to date with these training changes and to provide input please contact the Industry Development Manager - Sport, Fitness and Recreation for more details. 


Training and Education

A range of nationally accredited sport, fitness and outdoor recreation qualifications are delivered in Western Australian through the TAFEs, registered training organisations, specialist schools and colleges, with pathways articulating through to higher education qualifications and post-graduate studies in some of these areas.
 
FutureNow works with stakeholders across the training and education landscape, and has a formal role to play in the development of vocational education and training to meet industry needs.

Apprenticeships and Traineeships

​Apprenticeships and traineeships provide a way to combine training with a job, enabling the student to work towards a nationally recognised qualification whilst earning a wage. A number of sport and recreation related qualifications may be completed as a traineeship.

​VET Delivered to Secondary Students

FutureNow works with industry to provide current advice on the suitability of vocational sport, fitness and recreation qualifications for delivery to secondary students. This advice is collated and updated annually into the VET  Qualifications Register for Secondary Students by the Department of Training and Workforce Development.
