Women's sport is set to benefit from a new $250,000 annual fund to enable the State's grassroots clubs to revitalise change rooms and other facilities to accommodate booming participation levels. A lack of adequate facilities has for many years meant that many women's sporting teams do not have proper change rooms available. The $250,000 per year fund will be quarantined from the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, with more funding available subject to demand. Read more The accommodation sector has welcomed the announcement that the Australian Tax Office (ATO) will examine data from short-term rental platforms such as Airbnb to identify discrepancies in property owners’ income declarations. Income records for approximately 190,000 Australians will be compared with information from the short-term rental platforms and their financial institutions, as well as State and Territory Bond Boards. The state Government has unveiled plans for a hub to provide training in the rapidly growing field of data science. The WA Data Science Innovation Hub will be run in collaboration with Curtin University and run across Curtin's Perth and Bentley sites. It will be officially launched next month with an industry event. The State Government is providing $800,000 over four years, through the $16.7 million New Industries Fund, for a Business Connector to manage the hub, and Curtin University is also providing $800,000 towards the hub over four years. The hub will provide access to specialised data science capabilities in universities and trained graduates, upskilling programs for industry, the translation of data science capabilities from the resources sector to emerging sectors, and promote the value of data science in WA. Winners of the 2017/18 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards were announced during a breakfast at Optus Stadium on Wednesday 8 August. The biennial awards acknowledge and reward those who have played a crucial role in the development and ongoing management of the sport and recreation industry in WA.
