![]() The Australian Public Galleries Snapshot collates the data of 197 of Australia’s estimated 408 small-to-medium public galleries. Published by the National Public Galleries Alliance, the report gives a detailed overview of the sector. It identifies that over 5000 people volunteer in galleries across the country each year, and that over half of all funding attracted by galleries comes from local government. Read the full report here. ![]() The Western Australian Government is bringing forward $4.65 million in infrastructure funding to help State Sporting Associations (SSAs) maintain their assets such as grounds and buildings. The Western Australian Government normally allocates $2 million a year under the State Sporting Infrastructure Fund. The funding is being provided to SSAs that operate venues capable of hosting state and national level sporting competition as identified in the State Sporting Infrastructure Plan. One of the beneficiaries will be the Eight Ball Federation's facility in Queens Park which will be allocated $100,000 for infrastructure maintenance and improvement. ![]() The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) will contact almost one million people who completed vocational education and training in 2019 through the annual National Student Outcomes Survey. These students will be contacted about their employment outcomes, satisfaction, and training relevance, with survey results used to help future students make decisions about training, and to assist governments and training providers to ensure VET is of high quality and relevant to Australian workplaces. NCVER media statement ![]() Premier Mark McGowan has announced Phase 4 of WA's COVID-19 recovery will begin on Saturday, June 27. Major sporting and entertainment venues can now open, operating at 50 per cent capacity, and gyms will be able to operate unstaffed. Hospitality venues will not have to maintain a guest register and patrons will not have to be seated. Gathering limits will be determined by the 2sqm rule, which will also apply to staff at venues that hold more than 500 patrons. Phase 5, which will involve the removal of the 2sqm rule, is likely to come into effect on July 18. Phase 6 will see borders reopen, but no date has been announced. Media statement. ![]() A two year study by the Committee for Perth has presented some key recommendations to encourage people to live, study, work, invest in and visit Perth. The report calls for bold and confident initiatives to create a distinct identity beyond the natural assets the city is known for, suggesting that Perth is well positioned to capitalise on recent investments in sporting and cultural infrastructure and events as well as urban renewal projects and hospitality experiences. These factors, along with a celebration of Aboriginal culture and community have the potential to drive a deeper, more complex narrative about the city's identity. ![]() A major review of the ICT Information Communications Technology training package has been approved at the June 16th Australian Industry Skills Commission meeting. The Case for Endorsement (CfE) involves fast tracked and updated training for the information technology (IT) industry’s workforce. It includes the update of four qualifications (consolidating 24 qualifications) and 272 units of competency; development of 53 new units and 9 new skill sets and; deletion of 38 units and 2 skill sets. The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) Emergency Response Sub‑Committee, established to provide a timely response to emerging industry training needs in the face of disruption brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, supported an expedited process to endorse the training package. The package contains 7 new skill sets in areas including cloud computing, cyber security, and data analytics and provides more flexibility for providers to address just-in-time training needs. ![]() The Australian Museums and Galleries Association WA have released Reopen. The guide responds to the state Government's 4-phase recovery plan and is intended to assist museums and galleries in WA to 'reopen and be part of a community recovery post COVID-19'. Read the guide here. ![]() The SEEK Employment Report for May 2020 shows month-on-month growth in the overall number of jobs advertised. While figures are still down compared to the same time last year (-52.5%), month-on-month growth in jobs advertised is 39.7%. Hospitality & tourism outperformed all other sectors, with month-on-month job ads in the industry up 138%. “We are encouraged to see industries which were hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic rebounding at a good pace”, says Kendra Banks, managing director, SEEK ANZ. “Authorities gave businesses the green light to restart their operations, resulting in increased hiring activity. Due in part to many people continuing to work from home, and increased reliance on new technology and flexible communication, the app will enable stakeholders to stay informed. It is a single source of research data, content, and contacts. It includes full access to the TTF COVID-19 Travel and Leisure Survey conducted by Newgate Research, which contains a wide range of useful data about the travel intentions and preferred transport modes of over 1,500 Australians. TTF chief executive Margy Osmond said “We hope this app will be a useful go-to guide, and make sure to keep an eye out for new industry updates as they become available via push notifications as we all ramp up our recovery work.” TTF media statement ![]() The Kalbarri Skywalk, featuring two cantilevered viewing platforms 100 metres above the Murchison River and jutting out 25 metres and 17 metres respectively from the gorge rim, is now open to visitors within Kalbarri National Park. The Skywalk offers visitors striking views of the Park’s gorges, sandstone cliffs, waterways, and bushland famous for its wildflowers. The Skywalk is part of improving access and infrastructure in Kalbarri National Park to encourage more tourists to explore the town of Kalbarri and the wider Coral Coast’s natural heritage.
