Hospitality Youth Skills Showcase 2010

FutureNow representatives attended Hospitality Youth Skills Showcase 2010 on Sunday 23rd May entitled 'A Mediterranean Mosaic' where over 500 guests were treated to a culinary journey from Greece to Egypt, Morocco to Italy, Spain, Turkey and more...  A kitchen brigade featuring twenty one of Western Australia's brightest young hospitality apprentices and trainees planned and created a sumptuous dinner and table service was provided by eighty eight enthusiastic hospitality students.

Apprentice Kickstart Extension

Due to the success of the initial Apprentice Kickstart program, an extension has been granted until November 2010 for employers who put on a new young apprentice in a skills shortage trade.

State Budget 2010-11: Addressing Skills and Workforce Needs for the Future

The Liberal-National Government will strengthen its focus on creating a skilled workforce and addressing emerging labour requirements with the announcement of the 2010-2011 State Budget. There has been $19.4million allocated over two years (2009-10 and 2010-11), allowing the State Government to provide an additional 7,600 training places in industry priority areas, including apprenticeships and traineeships.

Announcement of 2010 - 11 Commonwealth Budget

The Honourable Wayne Swan MP, Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia has released the 2010 - 2011 Commonwealth Budget. A key initiative of the Budget is the investment in skills for sustainable development, with $660 million to be spent over four years on training, apprenticeships and adult literacy and numeracy to ensure Australia has the skills it needs to support a growing economy.

Release of WA Workforce Development Briefing Papers

The Department of Training and Workforce Development  has released five Workforce Development Briefing Papers which highlight the key issues affecting the supply and demand of labour in Western Australia.  The issues have been consolidated into the key themes of:

  • Western Australia's Changing Workforce;
  • Attracting and Retaining a Skilled Workforce;
  • Challenges to Workforce Participation;
  • Training, Skills Formation and Productivity; and
  • Workforce Development Planning and Coordination.
