media
Australia's media, film and broadcasting industry is a major force in providing entertainment and information for a wide audience. Through audio and visual media, Australia reflects its social, political, economic, cultural and aesthetic values.
The industry is also an important source of entertainment and leisure for the majority of Australians, and includes telecasting, television broadcasting, television film or tape production, cinema operation, motion picture screening, newsreel theatre operation and motion picture distribution.
Additionally, the Australian radio industry is comprised of the community, commercial and public (ABC and SBS) sectors. This industry covers businesses mainly engaged in radio broadcasting, collection of news for radio services and the production of radio programs.
Multimedia is another important part of the screen and media industry, and applies to a growing range of applications across business, education, entertainment, and information technology that involves the integrated use of different media such as text, sound, video, film, photography, two dimensional and three dimensional graphics, and animation. Multimedia usually involves digital technology and a capacity for user interaction with the multimedia product. The ubiquity, size, growth and potential value to the economy renders multimedia in the arts a vital component of the 'Information Age'. Work with multimedia falls into two broad categories: design and development of multimedia products; and maintenance of multimedia product content (online information, online marketing services, electronic publications, online aspects of hybrid products).
Training is available in media across the vocational education and training sector, in schools, through adult community education and at universities.
