hospitality, tourism, events

Hospitality, tourism and events are three separate, but closely linked sectors. Together they are considered one of Australia’s largest industries, and while each provides a distinct set of roles and responsibilities, many industry employees will work in all three areas during their career.  Skills and knowledge in hospitality, tourism and/or events opens doors to employment in restaurants, cafes, hotels, resorts, clubs, airlines, casinos, catering companies, convention centres, travel agencies, tour operators and event management companies (to name a few) across the world.

Training is available for hospitality, tourism and events through registered training organisations, schools, TAFEs, adult community education and universities.  The National Training Package – ‘SIT07 Tourism, Hospitality and Events’ delivers nationally recognised training and qualifications to ensure graduates possess the necessary workplace relevant skills for working in this dynamic industry sector.

The hospitality, tourism and events industries are customer service driven and great people skills as well as the ability to work in a team are important personal attributes for career success.  Flexible work arrangements are available casual, part time or full time, and training in areas of skill shortage may increase your chances of employment substantially (for example chefs, hospitality supervisors and managers, food and beverage attendants, catering contract supervisors/managers (mining & resource sector).
