Recent changes to the Australian Resuscitation Council’s (ARC) guidelines no longer recommend the use of spinal collars in first aid activities. ARC’s guidelines are considered industry best practice with organisations adhering to its recommendations and guidelines.
Concerns were raised by industry stakeholders that if an individual completes this unit of competency, they are undertaking training that directly contradicts industry recognised guidelines. The Sport and Recreation Industry Reference Committee confirmed the need for this change to occur as a priority and the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) have granted their approval.
SISCAQU007 Perform advanced water rescue (Release 2) is now available on training.gov.au. The amendments are found in the Assessment Requirements and are outlined here. This change has no impact on unit coding or titling.
