FutureNow is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Hobbs as CEO of FutureNow as of the 4th of May 2015, due to the early retirement of outgoing CEO Mal Gammon. Julie is an experienced business person, creative practitioner and educator with a deep commitment to workforce development as a driver of economic, social and cultural capital. Her capabilities in management, education and the creative industries are informed by a range of qualifications and a multifaceted career that has encompassed the private and public spheres as well as engagement with the not for profit sector.
Julie’s appreciation of the significance and complexity of the vocational training and education (VET) sector developed through work as a lead VET practitioner and more recently as a public sector consultant and manager. She was an Academic in the Applied Design Portfolio at the Central Institute of Technology from 2002 – 13 and from 2008 was appointed to the role of Principal Lecturer. This Academic leadership role included teaching, curriculum design and development and the creation of strong industry connections to the creative industries disciplines that comprised the academic area.
Julie recognizes the critical relationship between industry and training and is a long standing contributor to the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) the multidisciplinary peak body for Australian design. She has held leadership positions within the institute serving as WA President from 2009-13 and is the current National President until October 2016.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts, Advanced Diploma of Design, Diploma of Quality Auditing, Graduate Diploma of Management, Graduate Diploma of Education and Training and is currently enrolled in a Masters of Art and Design.
