As part of their national consultations, on 29 January Skills Impact conducted a workshop to review draft Certificate IV in Farriery, developed to replace the current Certificate III qualification. The proposed qualification contains some units at Level 3 while others at a higher level 4 to reflect the level of work and include 3 new units of competency:
  • Use hand and power tools for farriery or hoof care activities;
  • Trim and dress equine hooves; and
  • Apply knowledge of equine musculoskeletal anatomy, biomechanics and pathology for effective hoof care.
Skill sets are also being consulted about to cover activities associated with equine foot care.
The draft documents are available on the Skills Impact website for input and feedback until 7 February.
