FutureNow recently completed consultation around the need to establish the Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management as a traineeship and the Certificates III in Hospitality (Restaurant Front of House) and IV in Commercial Cookery as apprenticeships in Western Australia. The enduring focus of travel, tourism and hospitality industry stakeholders is that of promoting an industry where lifelong, professional careers can be achieved.
In a growing industry that currently provides 97,000 jobs State-wide with further employment opportunities forecast, particularly at a managerial level, one of the workforce challenges that Industry stakeholders have long recognised is the need to develop and promote career pathways to attract more workers and crucially, retain existing workers. Training to up-skill workers and equip them with the appropriate competencies will prepare these workers to progress into leadership roles. Some industry representatives see the establishment of higher level apprenticeships or traineeships for the industry as one way of achieving this progression.
