The Department of Sport & Recreation is pleased to announce the launch of a major project focused on identifying the learning and workforce development requirements of the recreation industry in Western Australia.
FutureNow Project Manager for Sport and Recreation, Rachael Davidson; together with Angela Kiely from the South Metropolitan Education Office recently facilitated a Sport and Recreation Industry Currency day for teachers delivering sport and recreation, and sports coaching qualifications.
After being named WA's Trainer of the Year at this year's WA Training Awards in September, Jacky Cheng was awarded the national title at the Australian Training Awards held at the Perth Convention Centre on Friday night 22 November. Jacky beat seven other state finalists from across the country to take out this prestigious title.

New National Party Leader and Minister for Training and Workforce Development, the Hon Terry Redman MLA visited Crown Perth, Western Australia's second largest employer of apprentices and trainees on Wednesday 20 November 2013 to view the behind the scenes work environment of one of the most exciting hospitality and entertainment venues in Australia. Crown Perth run by FutureNow joint Chairman Barry Felstead, now employs over 6,000 staff across 32 restaurants, numerous bars, a 24-hour casino, a nightclub, 2 world-class hotels (soon to be 3), a state-of-the-art Events & Conference Centre, a 2,300 seat theatre, a Day spa, and a Hairdressing salon. The visit proved to be an eye opener for the Minister and his staff and demonstrated the best practice training and workforce development facilities and practices of Crown Perth.
On Wednesday 20 November Creative Industries Project Manager Jo Pickup attended Central Institute’s Product Design graduate show Now in 3D at the Colonnade, Subiaco. Now in 3D showcased the design innovation on the part of its 14 graduates this year as well as highlighting Central’s approach to training which enables students to learn the foundational approaches to design as well as the hands-on skills of product creation and manufacture. The range of work on display was impressive, and the contribution made by the lecturers and other design students to this exhibition on the night demonstrates the strong whole of school commitment at Central to training WA’s next generation of design talent. The Department of Sport and Recreation Community Participation Funding scheme is open year round, supporting grants between $1000 - $5000. The South Metropolitan Education Office, ICT training provider AICT, and FutureNow presented the second IT Industry Awareness Day for highschool teachers and highschool VET coordinators on Friday 15 November at AICT headquarters, Murray St, Perth.
