NCVER Report Raises Questions on VET Training Outcomes |
|
10 August 2008
A recent NCVER report Is VET Vocational? which is based on the destination outcomes of graduates compared to the occupation they intended to enter upon commencement of their courses has indicated that outside of trades training, there is no neat match between courses and the occupations in which most people end up working.
Second, those developing training packages need to be aware that many graduates will not work in their 'intended' occupation. Finally, potential students need to be realistic about the likely occupation that a particular course will lead to. Based on the research, arts, sport and personal services appear to be the most generic, however this is not inconsisent with other research across the world and highlights the need for accurate, clear and realistic careers advice, further detailed research into the graduate intentions and destinations of this cohort and recognition that the key attributes of creativity, problem solving and innovation inherent in these courses give graduates an advantage no matter what career they finally choose.
