Skills and labour shortages continue to impact on Western Australia's workforce, with the arts, sport and recreation industries far from immune and feeling the pinch in many different occupations. This is one of the major challenges facing organisations today and is to be a key focus of the new industry training advisory arrangements to come into effect in November this year. These new arrangements are designed to drive the reforms needed to attract, train and retain the skilled workers needed by industry. FutureNow, as the lead organisation in the implementation process which involves the grouping of a range of creative and leisure industry sectors under one training council, is currently coordinating and facilitating the establishment of a high level Board to provide strategic leadership to the organisation.

Covering industries that will encompass arts, sport and recreation, hospitality and tourism, printing and some areas of information and communications technologies, the training council will utilise the complementary synergies and experiences of the industries to develop workforce development plans and strategies to assist industry to address current and future skills shortages.
